These are the principles and procedures the skill applies. You can understand the reasoning without having to perform every production task yourself.
On a set, the coffee cup stays on the table by itself.
In generated production nothing stays anywhere by itself. Every prop, every bandage, every piece of knowledge persists only because it was recorded as state and inherited by the next shot.
01 / Continuity
The inventory to keep
A supervisor's working document is a list of things that are currently true. It is boring, it is long, and it is the difference between a season and a set of clips.
- Identity: is this the approved face, body and expression range
- Costume: which state, tied to which story day
- Physical state: injuries, fatigue, anything introduced and not yet resolved
- Possessions: who is holding what, and who gave it to them
- Locations: approved layout, lighting, and what lives in the room
- Geography: where the door is, who is camera-left, established when
- Knowledge: who knows what, learned in which scene, from whom
- Relationships: the current temperature between each pair
- Time: which story day this is, and how much has passed
02 / Continuity
A pass that catches things
- 01Read the knowledge timeline alone, in order
Strip everything else out. Contradictions are glaring in this view and invisible inside a script.
- 02Trace each tracked possession across the arc
Follow one object from first appearance to last. Objects change hands more often than anyone remembers.
- 03Check every scene against its story day
Costume, time of day, and any physical state that should still be present.
- 04Walk the geography scene by scene
Where things are, and whether any shot contradicts what an earlier shot established.
- 05Review flagged shots against the reference they failed
Not against the previous shot. The reference is the standard; the previous shot may itself be wrong.
- 06Decide, and record the decision
Accept, repair or dismiss. A dismissal is legitimate and recorded. A warning that silently disappears is not.
03 / Continuity
What no check will catch
Automated checks compare against things that were recorded. Anything nobody put into canon cannot be checked against canon, and that is where a supervisor earns the role.
The recurring examples: a character behaving in a way that is consistent with their references and wrong for who they are; an emotional beat that contradicts the previous episode without contradicting any recorded fact; a scene that is technically possible and narratively impossible for a reason nobody wrote down.

What continuity work does the AI Skill do for me?
It organises the character, prop, costume, lighting and story-state checks your AI Director should apply to the scene. Instead of remembering every detail yourself, you can inspect the relevant references and specific warnings. The skill assists review and does not claim to detect every possible continuity error.
Do I need production experience to use the Continuity Skill?
No. The skill organises the continuity pass and points your AI Director toward the relevant references and story state. You can inspect the flagged details without learning the whole discipline first. Final acceptance still belongs to the appropriate reviewer, and specialist input can help on complex productions.
What is the most commonly missed continuity error?
Knowledge state. A character acting on information they have not been given is invisible to any visual check, entirely plausible in a generated shot, and instantly noticed by an audience following the story.
Should I check before or after rendering?
Both, and the earlier pass is worth more. Continuity checks on scripts and boards catch the errors that would otherwise be rendered, reviewed and repaired at full cost.
Can I dismiss a continuity warning?
Yes, with the dismissal recorded. Sometimes the reference is wrong, sometimes the story changed, sometimes the flag is a false positive. What matters is that the decision is attributable.
How is continuity performance measured?
Continuity and compliance warnings per accepted minute, accepted shots per generation attempt, and repair success without collateral change. We will publish ours from our own demonstration production rather than quoting anyone else's.
