What is being compared?

This page compares two approaches: a broad online course library, illustrated by LinkedIn Learning, Udemy Business and Coursera, and a focused role-based practice path, illustrated by Tosheo.ai's planned scope. The library details come from each vendor's own pages, read on 16 October 2026. Tosheo.ai is pre-build, so its side is planned. No course or platform was tested or benchmarked.

Avoid the easy caricature. Modern libraries are not just passive video: all three include AI features, and two list AI role plays or coaching. A focused path can be a poor fit if its tasks do not match your work. Start with your team's actual problem.

What is the difference between AI training and an online course library?

A course library is a catalogue: the learner or manager chooses courses, and the library tracks progress. Focused AI training is a sequence chosen for each person, built around doing a task and getting feedback on it. The first optimises for breadth and choice; the second for practice on a narrow set of skills.

Both can include assessment. The difference is where the weight sits. In a library, practice usually supports a course. In a focused path, the task is the lesson, and the explanation exists to help the learner do it.

What do the three large libraries publish?

Each library has its own page on this site with fuller detail and sources. The table summarises what each published on 16 October 2026.

When is a course library the better choice?

A course library is the better choice in more situations than a focused tool, and it is the safer default if you are unsure.

You need many subjects

One subscription covers AI alongside leadership, data, design and software skills.

You need it now

All three libraries are available today. Tosheo.ai is not.

Credentials matter outside the company

Professional Certificates and exam prep carry recognition a role-path certificate may not.

People learn in several languages

Each library lists multilingual content. Tosheo.ai is English only at launch.

You run an LMS or need SSO

Library enterprise plans list integrations. Tosheo.ai has no LMS connections or SSO at launch.

When is a focused practice path worth considering?

A focused path is worth considering when the team already has AI tools and the problem is how well people use them in a specific, repeated task. Managers in this position often see high course completion but no change in the work, because knowing a technique and applying it under time pressure are different skills.

Tosheo.ai is being built for that case: short lessons, each ending in a task in the tool the team uses, graded against a visible rubric, with managers seeing skill rather than completion alone. It is planned scope, and planned scope is not evidence of better results.

How would the same skill be taught each way?

Take one fictional skill: a sales team at Marlow Freight using Claude to summarise discovery calls without inventing customer requirements.

Library approach

The manager assigns a prompting course and a course on AI accuracy. Learners watch, complete quizzes and perhaps an AI role play. The manager sees completion.

Focused approach

The learner gets fictional call notes, asks Claude for a summary, then marks each stated requirement and checks it against the notes. The rubric scores accuracy, missing items and invented ones.

A weak output

The summary lists "needs weekend delivery" when the customer only asked whether it was possible.

The reviewed version

The learner rewrites it as "asked about weekend delivery; no requirement stated", and the feedback explains why the distinction matters for the quote.

Can a team combine a library with focused practice?

Yes. A common pattern is a library for broad learning and a focused path for the two or three AI tasks each role does every week. Before paying for both, test whether the library alone changes the work: give a few people a fictional task after their course and inspect the output against a simple standard.

If the output is good, you do not need a second tool. If it is not, look for practice with feedback, from whichever provider you trust.

Why does course completion not show AI skill?

Completion shows that someone finished a course, not that they can do the task well. A learner can watch every lesson on checking AI output and still forward a summary with an invented figure the next morning, because the course never asked them to catch one under real conditions.

This is not a flaw unique to libraries; any training that reports only completion has it. The fix is the same whichever approach you choose: ask people to do a realistic task and judge the output against a stated standard. Libraries that offer AI role plays or assessments go some way towards this. Check how those are scored and whether a manager can see the result as skill rather than as a tick.

What should you check before choosing?

Treat this page as a set of sourced buying questions, not a winner label or a calculation of return on investment. Use the checklist on every option you shortlist.

Seats and commitment

Compare seat minimums, annual or monthly billing and cancellation terms. Tosheo.ai prices are planned and can change.

Trial or refund terms

Check whether there is a free trial, a money-back period, and what happens to certificates if you cancel.

Tool access

Check whether practice uses the AI tools your team actually has. Tool subscriptions are usually separate.

What learners must demonstrate

Ask to see an assessment or task and the standard it is judged against.

What managers see

Check whether reports show skill, completion or both, and what personal data they expose.
