Who is this beginner AI course for, and who is it not for?
It is for people who have heard colleagues talk about ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot and want to use them confidently, but have either never tried or tried once and got something unhelpful. You need no technical background, only a work laptop and a few spare slots in your week.
It is not for people who already use AI tools daily and want advanced techniques. If that is you, the diagnostic will notice and move you on, or you may prefer the prompt engineering course. It starts without code, with optional Code lessons in Python later if you want them. It is not a full-time bootcamp, a degree or a job guarantee.
What will I learn in this AI course for beginners?
You learn in six modules, each made of short lessons with a hands-on task. The order follows how confidence actually builds: understand the tool, ask it something, judge the answer, stay safe, then do real work.
1. What AI tools are and what they are not
Chat assistants, AI inside the apps you already use, and why a fluent answer is not the same as a correct one.
2. Your first prompts
Saying who you are, what you need, what to use and what shape the answer should take. Rewriting a vague request into a useful one.
3. Checking what comes back
Spotting invented facts, dates and names, asking the tool to show its working, and deciding when to verify elsewhere.
4. Safe use at work
What counts as confidential or personal data, what your company policy may say, and what to do when unsure.
5. First real tasks
Summarising a long document, drafting an email, turning notes into a checklist and preparing for a meeting.
6. Building a habit
Choosing which weekly tasks to try with AI, keeping a small set of your own prompts and knowing when AI is the wrong tool.
How does the personalised path adapt to a complete beginner?
Your path starts with a short diagnostic that asks about your role, the tools your company allows and how often you use AI now. A receptionist and a finance manager both start with module one, but their worked examples differ: one sees visitor and booking messages, the other sees month-end notes.
If you breeze through checking tasks, later lessons get harder sooner. If a task scores low on one rubric criterion, such as missing an invented date, you get an extra short lesson on that point before moving on.
What do I practise, and how is it marked?
Every lesson ends with a task you do in a real AI tool, and your answer is marked against a rubric you can see before you start. Feedback names what you did well and the one thing to fix. If you think a mark is wrong, you can flag the score for review.
Example task: Priya, office manager at a fictional 12-person accountancy practice, Harlow and Pike, has rough notes from a team meeting. Her task is to ask an AI tool for a tidy action list with owners and dates, then compare it with her notes and correct anything the tool added. The rubric checks that the prompt said which facts to use, that every action matches the notes, and that she removed one owner the tool invented.
How long does the beginner course take?
Each lesson takes 10 to 15 minutes, so you can fit one between meetings. The total length of your path depends on your diagnostic result and how often you learn, so we do not quote a fixed number of hours. Someone who already writes clear emails may move through the drafting lessons faster than someone who finds writing hard.
What do I get at the end?
When you finish your path, you take a final practical assessment: a short set of real tasks marked against the same kind of rubric you used throughout. Passing it earns a recognised certificate you can add to your profile or CV. It shows practical ability; it is not an accredited qualification.
